This excerpt is the written form of Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation during the Civil War. This freed all enslaved persons in places of rebellion, mainly southern states that were part of the Confederacy. This document can be used alongside the digital history project for Texas slavery. Individually, the text is intended to be used in a curriculum for 10th or 11th grade students.
