An Act for Prohibiting the Importation of Negroes, June 1774

This legal act outlawed the importation of enslaved Africans to the colony of Rhode Island in 1774. Slaves were not banned from being imported to the US as a whole until 1808, dictated by the Constitutional Convention. This text is for 9th-12th grade students.
