I think it's important for teens to enjoy reading because books are full of problems, and overcoming problems is a universal struggle we all share. Books help us develop empathy, which is an invaluable skill to have.
I loved the Percy Jackson series and Harry Potter books in middle school. Anything with adventure and magic!
My all time favorite book is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Sci-fi is the way of the future!
