I feel it’s important for teens (or anyone) to enjoy reading as it expands their imagination and improves their brain health. Reading is an activity that lets you travel the world without having to step out of your homes! And in the times that we are living in, this is the best habit for teens to enjoy & develop. It gives readers a different perspective on things around them and helps them experience the world from another person’s point of view and familiarize themselves with different cultures which makes them empathetic towards others.
In middle school I enjoyed reading a lot of teen and young adult fiction. The book that made reading a much loved activity for me was Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman. The book is set in a parallel universe and features the journey of a young girl in search of her best friend. It had all the adventure and magic for me to enjoy reading.
It is very difficult to pick out one favorite book, but a recent book that has made a change to my point of view about the world is called the An Era of Darkness by Shashi Tharoor. The book talks about the British Empire in India its lingering effects on the politics, international relations and the attitude of Indians today towards their country and the world.
