Reading is a foundational skill, used daily for so many different reasons. I believe that it is important for teens not only to be strong readers but to also enjoy reading.

My favorite book series that I read in middle school was The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. Those books transported me to a different world and allowed me to go on adventures that I never will go on. And, it helped me to think of human issues and what makes people moral. I will always love these books, since they were my first favorite book series. And, these books remind me that reading is exciting and enthralling.
My favorite book of all time is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The writing in the book is absolutely beautiful, and I love the symbolism in the story. It takes place during the 1920's, with beautiful costumes, interesting people, and practices different from the modern era. Even though some view the characters as unlikable, they are very well developed and fully realized with questionable morals but understandable motivations. It truly is a classic!
