Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States, writes in this letter to a friend about Shay’s Rebellion. This was an uprising that occurred in Massachusetts because of rebels’ dissatisfaction with the federal government. As students read, they should identify Jefferson’s opinion on revolution and whether or not he is a supporter of Shay’s Rebellion. This text is for 10th grade readers.
