This excerpt from an 1865 newspaper article reports on the shooting of President Abraham Lincoln. The attack occurred only 5 days after General Robert E. Lee, leader of the Confederacy, surrendered to the Union. As students read, they should not the tone of the reports. This test is for 8th grade students.
